The society we live in is an association of individuals. Peace must prevail within an individual, infiltrate the family and pervade the community. By ensuring peace within the individual, societal peace is a natural corollary which will ultimately lead to world harmony. It is purely to accomplish such a great vision, that the philosophical sage Vethathiri Maharishi established the ‘World Community Service Centre’ in the year 1958. The word Temple (ஆலய) means the ‘place where everyone converges’ to worship God. “ஆ” denotes the soul, and “லய” denotes convergence. Temple is the place where the soul is freed from its own contradictions and realizes itself. Just as the body is made up of 7 types of basic components namely, mercury or saliva, blood, flesh, fat, bone, marrow, and semen/ovum and contains the divinity called life, we see God dwelling in the temple made up of 7 materials namely, brick, white stone or cobblestone, basalt, water, sand, ash and alkali. The primary seed for the hall of wisdom, namely, the ‘Temple of Consciousness‘ in Courtalam, was planted on 25.10.1997 Saturday evening. With the efforts of members of the foundation “Bharathiyar – Gnana Vellam Sky Trust” (in Kadayam), namely, Arulnithi Sankara Narayanan, Arulnithi Poet Murugesan and Arulnithi Thrikoodapathi, the ‘Manavalakalai Manda Thavamaiyam‘  was launched in Arulnithi Annaamalayor’s Arun Illam – a place surrounded by Trees and tranquility. With the divine blessings of Prof. Arulnithi K.G. Sami Ayya, and graced by the presence of Arulnithis: Semporul Azhagan, Thangadurai Pandian, Maharajan, Pakkiyavathy Annaamalayor, and Suseela Thangadurai Pandian. With the efforts of Arulnithis: Semporul Azhagan, Karpaga Vinayagam, Kumara Azhagappan, Arivazhagan, Pakkiyavathy Annaamalayor and Thangadurai Pandian, training on the topic ‘Philosophy of Nature’ was conducted by Prof. Arulnithi Letchoumanane on December 27th & 28th of the same year. The training took place in ‘Ramco Hall’ owned by Mounasamy Mutt in Courtallam. More than a 100 beloved patrons attended the training and were benefited by it. This training continued to get conducted by Arulnithis: Annaamalayor, Athithan, Chidambaram, Velappa, Ganesan, Murugan, Thangadurai Pandian, Sudarsanam, and Pakkiayavathy Annaamalayor for the next 10 years in a rented building at Courtalam, and for another 3 years in the Temple of Consciousness at Courtalam. In the year 2000, with the recommendation of Poet Arulnithi.Murugesan and Prof. Arulnithi. A.S. Radhakrishnan, ‘Gnana Aruvi SKY Trust‘ formed the 198th charter of World Community Service Centre. On 17.04.2002, Gnana Aruvi SKY Trust was registered as an individual trust under the Tamil Nadu Charitable Trust  Act. Annaamalayor, Sudarsanam, and Thangadurai Pandian were nominated as the Trust’s President, Secretary, and Treasurer respectively. K. Sivanupandiyan, A. Velappa, Pakkiyavathy Annaamalayor, Suseela Thangadurai Pandian, A. Avudaiyappan, V. Ganesan, R. Esakki, and Paulvannan took charge as trustees. With the avid efforts of the aforementioned people and by the undertakings of 28 beloved patrons–including Chidambaram, Anparasan, Mohan Thanga Pandian, and R.K. Kalidas–a 40-cent plot and a 60-cent deed of stream were received as donations to build the Temple of Consciousness. For the construction process to begin promptly, many people including ‘Arulnithiyargal’ Pakkiyavathy Annaamalayor, Chidambaram, Velappa, Gunasekaran, Singadurai, Jawaharlal Nehru couple, Murugesan, Chandrarose Sasikala, Suriyakani, Arpudhavalli, Paulvannan, Paramasivan, and Uma Sundar used to pray and practice Vow of Silence every Sunday. On 01.04.2004, ‘Arulnithiyargal’ A.Annaamalayor, Pakkiyavathi Annaamalayor, Chidambaram, Velappa, Muruganandham, Gandhiraj, Muthaiya, and Anitha, met ‘Arulthandhai’ Vethathiri Maharishi and received his blessings for the construction of Temple of Consciousness. On that occasion, our beloved Maharishi recalled the training held at Courtalam in the year of 1979, and blessed “You are setting out to accomplish the task I envisioned in 1979. The grace of God and Guru are with you”. With ‘Arulthandhai’ Vethathiri Maharishi’s blessings, Prof.TKS.Subramoniyam Ayya laid the ceremonial foundation stone on 22.08.2004 , marking the commencement of Temple of Consciousness‘ project. Owing to the delay in acquiring Government’s approval, the construction process started in the year 2006. On 11.08.2006, ‘Gnana Aruvi SKY Trust’ was renamed as ‘Courtalam Manavalakalai Manda Arakkattalai’. On 13.05.2007, World Community Service Centre’s President Shri.SKM. Maeilanandhan visited Courtalam Temple of Consciousness’ construction site and prayed for its quick completion. The construction process was continued under the efforts and blessings of Professor TKS.Subramoniyam Ayya. “Thana Aagarsana Sangalpam” was conducted every Friday, as per the words of Trichy Professor M. Sundarajan. With the blessings offered continuously through “Thana Aagarsana Sangalpam” by Pakkiyavathy Annaamalayor, Chidambaram, Velappa, Murugan, K. Chellammal, Muthaiya, Arpudhavalli, Chandrarose Sasikala, Suriyakani, Uma Kalaiselvan, Dhayalan, Gunasekaran, Singadurai, Ponraj, Raj, Nilavan Veluchamy, and the financial & materialistic assistance offered by the beloved patrons, the construction was planned based on the design provided by Architect Mr. M. Arul Pandian (Chennai), and completed expeditiously under the supervision of Engineer Arulnithi.L. Ganapathy. The temple’s expansion work is under progress. 400 ‘Arulnithiyaalargal’ and 1000 ‘Brahmagnaanigal’ have been fostered through Courtalam Manavalakalai Manda Arakkattalai. 14 Assistant-Professors and 8 Assistant-Professors have graduated in the years 2007 and 2008, respectively. They’re performing well too. Courtalam Manavalakalai Manda Arakkattalai offered the following services: 10 wards trained under the Master’s programme (in the year 2007) 10 wards trained under the “Yoga and Human Dignity” Master’s programme (in the year 2008) 39 wards trained under the Charter Course In the academic year of 2009-2010, 34 male and 66 female candidates received training under the Charter Course, and 5 wards were trained under the Master’s programme. For the Charter Course, K. Dhayalan and R.Esakki are ably serving as the Programme Officer and as the Vice-Programme Officer, respectively.
